check out the "discussion" we are having in history this week! My history teacher seems really cool, and definitely well versed in all kinds of religions!

Subject: RE: Religious Persecution
I absolutely think there are still forms of religious intolerance and oppression today in America. I am LDS (aka Mormon) and every time someone finds this out, I am bombarded with questions about my religion. I don't mind answering questions at all, and I certainly appreciate the opportunity to clear up misconceptions people have about my religion, but I do feel that once "the cat is out of the bag", people look at me differently, and question why I do (or do not do) certain things. This is, by no means, the horrible things that other people face because of their religion in other countries, however. (But I am definitely happy I was born here, and not some where else)

We took an imformal poll in my classroom section of History 121 on Monday. We have a wide range of religions represented in that class (including a Muslim and a Mormon), and probably in this class. Students in classroom courses tend to be more reserved than in online classes. Nobody said anything about the Muslim or Mormon. But once in an online class, during a discussion of this topic, a student wrote that the Mormon religion is a fake cult because they are not Christians. I pointed out that the full name of the Mormon church is "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," it has millions of members and is well-established in our society, and it is based on both the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

In fact, Christians, Jews, and Muslims all acknowlege Jesus as a holy prophet who spoke the word of God. The difference is that Jews and Muslims regard Jesus as human, not divine. Christianity, Judaism, Islam (and Mormonism) all start with the Old Testament and go from there. I have no doubt that people act "funny" when they learn you are a Mormon, Carla. I must say that in the history of our country, no religious group has suffered more persecution than Mormons. (Incidentally, I have a cousin who is a Mormon; and my sister has been a member of the Pentecostal Church for her entire adult life. Pentecostals often get "funny" looks from people, too. At first even my parents were alarmed by my cousin and sister joining those churches.)

Since 9/11 there is probably more bigotry toward Muslims in the U.S., but that is because of the fear of terrorism.

It's dinner time, do you know where your kids are?

I thought I did, but I was mistaken. It is not uncommon for Aiden to not come to the table when his name is called. Actually, it is the norm. So when I yelled "dinnertime" for everyone to come into the dining room, it was no big deal when Aiden didn't show up. I kept yelling his name, while walking through the house trying to find him. He wasn't in my room, his room or the family room. At this point, I am a little panicked as to his whereabouts. The picture above is where I found him. (he's still there)
