Safari Park
This weekend was the "summer bash" for the young women at church. One of the activities was going to the safari drive thru zoo in Natural Bridge, so Aiden, Owen and I tagged along for the ride (poor Walker was sweating away at Boy Scout camp)
One of the kangaroos actually came out of the fence to be petted! Another one had its baby bouncing around in its pouch, all you could see was its feet hanging out!!!
These two camels decided they weren't being fed fast enough, and they were coming inside.....
There were lots of baby pigs running around, Maddie wanted to steal one and bring it home (we didn't)
Owen had the camera the second time around the park, and thought it would be cute to act like his stuff animal from the gift shop was outside with the animals......crazy kid.

f.a.i.l.
Owen (a scientist wanna-be) has been making experiments lately. Messy ones, like toothpaste, baby powder and water. I thought I should channel this energy into a better place, so I thought the 'ivory soap' experiment I found on pinterest would be fun. It was, for about 10 seconds.

Partners in crime.....
Owen's best friend Cooper had a birthday party on Saturday at the skate center. His mom was kind enough to share this picture with me.....they really enjoyed kindergarten together this past year.

First haircut
Today we took Callie for her first 'grooming'. It was just a puppy cut from petsmart...more of a bath and a trim, but she sure smells better!

Going for broke.....
After all the excitement and trips to the doctor, emergency room and hospital for surgery last week, we began this week (Sunday evening anyway) back in the emergency room.....this time, it was for Maddie! She had been throwing up all day Sunday (just a bug I assumed) but by Sunday night, she had a terrible headache, and said she felt like she did a year or so ago when she was so sick with a migraine that she had become dehydrated. Since it was Sunday night, nothing was open but the emergency room, so off we went. After the fiasco I had with Roanoke Memorial, I was not taking her back there, so we went to Lewis Gale. WAY better. We got there at 8:00pm, and by 8:20 she was in a room, had seen a doctor, and was hooked up to an iv with pain medication and stuff to rehydrate her. A far better experience than the hours I spent puking in the waiting room last week! By 11:30 that night she was feeling better and ready to go home. Can't beat that! For the sake of memories, lets recap the past month: Walker had a root canal, followed by crown and then braces (this, of course, after the ingrown toenail surgery). I had one trip to the doctor, two to the emergency room and then surgery to remove the kidney stone. Maddie had four wisdom teeth pulled and now a trip to the emergency room.......The poor thing was all packed and ready for girls camp, when the doctor said it would be best if she stayed out of the sun and rested for the week....... :-(
*disclaimer* Maddie approved the use of these sad pictures on my blog---none of her friends read it, so it's all good! Here's to hoping next week is less eventful......

Car Ride
Everyone needs to get out of the house once in a while.....I was going to run the boys to the library when Aiden informed me Callie would like to ride. He said getting her was the best decision we ever made......I keep trying to remember that as we continue to housebreak her......

Remember When......
.....last Friday, I thought I may have pulled a muscle in my back. I went on to the cowboy party and headed to the doctor that afternoon. The doctor said the labs showed I most likely had a kidney stone. eeek. I have had them 3 times before, and they are always more than miserable. She gave me a prescription and sent me home. Saturday morning the medicine was doing absolutely no good, so I had Maddie drive me to the Emergency Room at Roanoke Memorial. By this time, it hurt so bad I was constantly puking, completely unable to stop. We checked in at the ER and waited....and waited.....and waited......seven hours later I was seen by a doctor, given 2 doses of morphine and 3 of something else to keep me from puking and an x-ray was done. Again, I was sent home with stronger medicine and told to go home and stay hydrated. Sunday was fairly uneventful, my back spasmed all day, but there was no real pain....until about 3am. By 5:00am I couldn't take it any more, and had resumed to puking non stop. We went back to the ER, where I was taken back to an ER room fairly quickly, but not quickly seen by a doctor. This time they had to give me multiple doses of whatever keeps you from puking, dilaudid, and toradol to ease the pain. They then did a CT scan, which showed a kidney stone. A 7mm kidney stone. Again the doctor wanted to dope me up and send me home. I sweetly informed him I was not leaving that hospital until the kidney stone was out. They could flush it out with fluids or do lithotrypsy, but I was not going through this any more. At 10pm, I was finally admitted to a hospital room (remember, I got there at 6am!) They opted to pump me full of fluids all night long trying to flush it out (no luck) and sent me to surgery at 9:30 the next morning to blast it up and pull it out. Ironically, this was the same time Maddie was being put to sleep to have all four wisdom teeth extracted (mom took care of getting her there and back, thank heavens!). We both arrived home Tuesday afternoon, doped up, in pain and sleepy as heck. It's been an interesting week here at the Wade home....Let's hope next week is better. Tim told Maddie to take a picture of me laying on the couch of the waiting room, puking, but she knew better.....All I have is the one of where they put an IV in my arm....wait, I mean tried to put an IV in my arm...I was so dehydrated they had a hard time finding a vain.....yuck!

The Storm
Last Friday, we had a really bad storm. It blew down trees and power lines. Some people lost electricity for an entire week (or longer). Thankfully, we only lost ours over night, it was right back on the next morning.
